Iroan Magic

Words do not have any special power on Iroas, and it is generally thought to be impossible to conjure fire with a thought. However, there is still magic.

When Paragons ascend, they leave behind a portion of their power. This manifests as gemstones that glow with an inner fire, known as soulgems. Each Paragon is attached to a different gem: Aspida left his orderly nature in diamonds, while Thirio infused some emeralds with his wild might. Nazar imbued opals with his thirst for knowledge and ruthlessness, and Enkavma found that rubies resonated with his destructive ways.

However, simply having a soul gem is not enough. It must be incorporated into a design on the item that will receive the power, and the nature of this design and the substance it is made of greatly affects what abilities the item will have and, once again, each of the Paragons is most closely related to a material and a general type of design. Aspida loves steel and sharp, orderly lines. Thirio feels that wood is the ideal material, and respects glyphs resembling animals. Nazar was very knowledgeable, and found that silver materials with concentric circle designs were the best at channeling magical energy. Enkavma was too violent and short sighted to plan ahead, and used the leather that he also used as his armor, carving haphazard and messy runes into it, and his followers follow his example.

There are some strange instances of magical power. The Maelstrom defies explanation, and the mages that follow the Enchanter are capable of world shaking feats of magic. None know how they do this, but many suspect it is due to their purity of purpose.
