Enchanted Items on Iroas

The abilities granted by the soul gems are varied, but there are certain themes. It is rare for the gems to directly effect anybody but the wielder, though there are certain intricate designs that can do so. What follows is a list of some of the more common enchanted items, and the thoughts behind their design.

The Wall: These shields are the key to the Aspidan military’s dominance, and the elite soldiers that form the core of the army are all issued one. A round shield roughly one meter in diameter, its surface is etched with design reminiscent of a castle tower, with a soul diamond on each parapet. When active, the soldier using the shield becomes rooted to the ground, making it impossible for him to move and granting him greater strength and toughness. The Aspidan army uses these shields to make their phalanx formation impenetrable.

Beast Totem: Carved in the shape of an animal, this small wooden totem uses a single small soul emerald to impart some of that animal’s attributes to its owner. Most commonly carved in the likeness of a predator, the bear, wolf and eagle are the most common designs, though other animals are not unheard of. It grants a small physical boost, focused on the attribute associated with the animal; the bear totem grants strength, the wolf grants endurance and the eagle enhances eyesight.

The Third Eye: One of the rarest and most intricate of the Nazarians’ tools, few outside of the Alliance even know it exists. Taking the form of a silver pendant shaped somewhat like an eye, with numerous soul opals making up the iris, this item allows the wielder to look at a target’s surface thoughts. This requires complete concentration, and can only be used on one target at a time.

Claws of the Destroyer: The most feared of the Enkavman items, this takes the form of  a leather gauntlet with crude runes scratched on every surface and a soul ruby on each knuckle. While worn, any attack that the user makes will burn the target like acid, eating through any protection the target is wearing. The smallest wounds caused by this leave permanent, painful scars.

Craftsman’s Aide: Among the simplest of the Alitheian items, this item normally resembles a statue several inches tall. With a touch and a command, it springs to life, helping its owner in anyway possible. The soul sapphire is hidden inside the statue’s head, with copper wiring forming a sort of skeleton.

Armor of the Champion: Designed to look like Aspida’s armor, this is only granted to the leaders of the Aspidan army. With up to ten soul diamonds and an equal amount of soul jade, this armor makes the wearer virtually impervious to harm; even the Claws of the Destroyer are ineffective against the protection this armor gives.

Warlord’s Mark: Unknown to all others, the Thirians have mastered a way of crushing soul emeralds and using them as tattoo ink. Only those who have proven themselves in combat are granted the honor, and the tattoos give the worthy inhuman strength, speed and endurance. The exact advantages vary depending on the design of the tattoo.

Skyship: The pride of Alitheian engineering, these marvels use hundreds of soul gems of every type with miles of copper, platinum, silver and steel wiring, all incorporated on a traditional sailing vessel to make a unique ship that can sail through the sky as easily as any bird. Only ten are currently in service, with most being small ships that are only fit to serve as scouts, and only two being true warships.

The Caress: A product of combined Nazarian and Enkavma power, this silver ring is unnerving to look at even when inactive. While the concentric circles with soul opals mark this as Nazarian mind magic, the apparently random addition of soul rubies disrupts the flow of energy, allowing the wearer to disrupt the mind of those they touch.

The Rings: A product of Eirini magic, these always come in a paired set. While worn, it forces those who wear it to comply with any agreements they make with the one who wears the other ring.
