The Psaria

An ancient and proud people, the psaria claim to be the first intelligent beings in the world, and they have the power to back it up.

The psarian culture is entirely built on deals and commerce, and they believe that everything is for sale. This has led to a sort of equality, where they barter skills to obtain goods. This is a distinct change from their culture in ancient times, before the rise of the Iroans. The psaria were once power mad tyrants, claiming that everything belonged to them and locked in an eternal war with the lykos. They treated the humans as inferior creatures whose only worthy use was manual labor, and they weren’t even very good at that.

While the Walker’s main focus was the lykoi, her army destroyed several psarian work camps on its crusade. Outraged at this, they organized an army, following her all the way to the lykos mountain fortress. It was there that they first knew fear, looking on as the earth itself rejected the lykoi. Then the Iroans attacked. Shocked at the furyborn strength of the small humans, the psarian army was routed, and the Iroans chased them all the way to the sea.

Since that day, the psarians have lived in fear of the Iroans but have never been able to admit it to themselves, instead claiming that they had decided that they weren’t even good for manual labor. Today they have limited contact with the nation of Alitheia, keeping a small trade route open to the surface for the few goods that they are unable to obtain in their underwater kingdom.

Psarians use magical items, much like the Iroans. There are essentially four types of psarian items, each manipulating one of the elements: earth, fire, air and water. The most common items manipulate earth and water, as the fire and air items are almost useless underwater. However, Alitheians have created a special gauntlet made of copper and silver, with soul emeralds and sapphires embedded in it, that allows an Iroan to use the psarian tools. This is a closely guarded secret, and it could lead to war if it was ever discovered.
