Airborne Masters of Light and Shadow

Hey look, I edited the title of yesterday's post! Nothing else changed, so don't worry about it - I just like this type of title more.
Dawnwing

Between five and six feet tall and weighing at most 100 pounds, Dawnwings were clearly never meant for front line combat. Created initially from songbirds and parakeets for their beautiful songs and plumage, they were considered the ideal companions for the nobility. When the war broke out it was discovered how useful their abilities could be; it was then that birds of prey, primarily eagles and hawks, started being used, though the lack of hands while flying limited their offensive capabilities. Today the various kinds of Dawnwing live side by side, with the different breeds being roughly analogous to race in humans. Today they act as spiritual leaders alongside the Duskwings.

In addition to the obvious advantages of flight, the Dawnwing are capable of generating light to varying degrees. All Dawnwings are able to create an amount equivalent to a torch, with the most powerful able to generate light sufficient to illuminate a coliseum. This light can come in almost any color and those with greater finesse are able to create complex images solely from light. In general the songbirds, as the ornamental Dawnwings have come to be known, have greater finesse while the raptors can create stronger lights, though there are exceptions.

Duskwing

Unlike the Dawnwings, the Duskwings were never meant to be pets or companions. Created using bats shortly before the war broke out, the Duskwings acted as spies for their masters, able to infiltrate enemy cities under cover of darkness. They continued to perform these duties during the war in addition to acting as scouts and sentries at night. Unlike Dawnwings, Duskwings are six limbed, with their wings protruding from their back and folding around their bodies when not in use. Today they are spiritual leaders alongside the Duskwings.

Unlike the other surviving hybrids, Duskwings do not have flashy magical abilities. Instead of flashy abilities, the Duskwings were granted powerful, yet subtle, sonic abilities. They can amplify or silence any sound within a short distance of themselves; traditionally this was used to muffle the sound of their wings in flight, but it can also be used to amplify voices.
