Nazarian Information Gathering

The Nazarians are the most secretive group in Iroas, and while almost everybody realizes that they aren’t simply librarians, few know the darkest secrets they hide.

The Nazarians continue to follow the example set by Nazar the Wise: obtain knowledge at any cost, for knowledge is power. There are four basic ways that they gain information.

Librarians: It would surprise most people to learn that most of the information that the Nazarians have comes from the Librarians. The most obvious reason is they use Nazarian funds to buy new books and they accept donated books, no matter the subject. However, they are skilled at gaining trust, and those who frequent the libraries will share secrets with the librarians that they wouldn’t dare speak out loud anywhere else.

Spies: Everyone knows the Nazarians are filled with spies, which means that their actual spies are among the least useful when it comes to actually gathering information. However, their stealth skills enable them to act as assassins and enforcers for the Alliance, and they are frequently hired by the nobility to eliminate their enemies.

Advisors: No king would hire a Nazarian advisor, which is why they don’t advertise them. Instead, those trained to be courtiers and advisors are almost completely cut off from the Nazarians, and appear to be either freelancers or, more rarely, infiltrate the Eirini Guild to work as diplomats.

Explorers: Of course, the courts of the nobility do not contain all the knowledge in the world. Thus, the Nazarian Alliance is well known for funding explorers, often allying with Alitheia to send Iroan expeditions to the farthest corners of the world.
