The Schools of Magic - Green, Part 2: New Phyrexia

Phyrexians practice a more aggressive form of Green magic than is standard, believing that only in conflict can a creature prove its worth. It is because of this that they focus entirely on predators and the idea of survival of the fittest.

Go here and click on the Green And Multicolored link to follow along, then hit the jump as I discuss how Phyrexia has twisted my second favorite color.

Green

Predation: The school of blind aggression and hunting.
Growth: This is mostly the same school as standard Green, it also deals with summoning Creatures at times.
Might: The school of physical power.
Phyrexia has no use for tranquility, and thus does not use the Tranquility school. The Mirrans use the traditional schools.

Beast Within: What a crazy card, not something you see in Green. I think this is a particularly violent expression of Might magic, just look at the flavor text.
Birthing Pod: Sacrificing the weak for the sake of the strong is a large part of the Vicious Swarm.
Brutalizer Exarch: Both abilities are Predation in different ways. The first ability summons a creature to hunt your enemies, while the second attacks your opponent.
Chancellor of the Tangle: The first ability, which will rarely come into play, is Growth magic, while the rest of the creature is Predation.
Corrosive Gale: This is a fringe example of Predation, where the weather itself becomes a tool of the hunter.
Death-Hood Cobra: A fine example of Predation, using every possible advantage available to it to catch its prey.
Fresh Meat: So what if your creatures all die? Growth magic can provide you with new ones!
Glissa's Scorn: As artifacts are often alive on Phyrexia, and metal is considered flesh as much as skin is, this is Predation.
Glistener Elf: You could make a good argument for this being Predation, but I'm putting it under Might because Glisteners are those rare Mirrans that willing defected to the Phyrexian side.
Greenhilt Trainee: A Mirran creature, he falls under the Beast school as he enhances creatures, presumably by transferring that neat forearm energy blade.
Leeching Bite: This lets your creature partially eat another one, meaning this is Predation.
Maul Splicer: This gives your golems more power, meaning it is part of the Might school.
Melira, Sylvok Outcast: The last hope of the Mirran resistance, Melira is pure Tranquility.
Mutagenic Growth: Boosting up your creature's power, this is a Might spell.
Mycosynth Fiend: Mycosynth is a sort of fungus that the oil creates. That, along with the fact that it grows gradually, makes me place this in the Growth school.
Noxioux Revival: This is one of those Growth cards that messes with creatures I was talking about.
Phyrexian Swarmlord: Once again, this feels like pure Predation magic to me.
Rotted Hystrix: Unlike most other vanilla creatures here, this really feels like a Might spell. This is mostly due to the art, which makes it feel less like a skilled predator than just something that uses its tremendous strength to defend itself.
Spinebiter: It ignores creatures for more tasty morsels, in this case your opponent, making this Predation.
Thundering Thanadon: Much like the Rotted Hystrix, this creature is not a skilled predator and instead uses its strength as a weapon, making this a Might spell.
Triumph of the Hordes: This is a pure Might spell, making all your creatures more powerful.
Viridian Betrayers: This is a Might spell for the same reasons as the Glistener Elf.
Viridian Harvest: A Mirran spell, this is a Growth spell that triggers off a Tranquility effect.
Vital Splicer: Another Splicer means another Might spell.
Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger: I'm not happy with the mechanics on Vorinclex's card. He should represent the pinnacle of the Predation school, but his mechanics are Growth oriented. However, the aggressive nature of his second ability, combined with his general flavor, leads me to say this is high level mix of Predation and Growth.

And that's it! Thanks for sticking with me through this extremely tiring series of posts. Monday I'll start another series, probably also about Magic Theory. I have an idea on what to write, but I'd like to hear your ideas, so leave a comment and let me know what you want to see!
